To mark the 125th anniversary of the Mont,
a book is being professionally produced about the history of the competition.

This will include information on every final since 1897, including today’s, as well as stories of the characters, teams and people who have featured in its long and proud history.

We are aiming to have the publication available in time for Christmas and profits will go to the Mexborough Montagu Hospital Comforts Fund.

The Montagu Cup was first competed for in the 1896-97 season with the final taking place in Mexborough.

To this day, the Montagu Cup final, is still held in Mexborough.  Traditionally this match is played on Easter Monday at 11am, at the Hampden Road ground.
It is thought to be the oldest football competition still played at the same ground.
