Mexborough Athletic

Mexborough Athletic FC was founded by Steve Poole and Linda Carlton in 2012.

Prior to that the sports grounds were leased to various football clubs and were home to Mexborough Cricket Club.

The grounds were looked after by Hughie Tingle, a member of the cricket club, and by DMBC who ensured the grounds were kept in excellent condition for many years.

The ground is used for local cup finals each year and trustees are currently in conversation with the local police to set up a community program for the youth of the Mexborough community.

The football pitches and grounds are maintained by Steve Poole and DMBC and are all run and maintained by volunteers.

The football grounds are currently used by Mexborough Athletic FC consisting of

1 x men’s Saturday team (County Senior League)
1 x open aged ladies’ team
1 x under 18s girls’ team
1 x under 15s girls’ team
1 x under 13s boys’ team
1 x under 8s boys’ team.

Swinton Athletic FC first team also hire the grounds for their County Senior men’s team.

Funding is reliant on grants, sponsorship and community help.
