Goldthorpe United – Junior Champions Mexborough and Swinton Times July 22, 1927
The Goldthorpe United team, were the Premier junior combination of the district last season. They won the championship of the Mexborough Senior League and of the Subsidiary Competition; and carried of the Montagu and Hemsworth cups..Their record of the season was:

1926/27 season Kilnhurst again changed their name this time to Kilnhurst Athletic, and yet again appeared in the semi final of the Montagu Charity Cup, losing to the eventual cup winners Goldthorpe United.
A Clever Centre Half

Cyril Miller, the centre-half of the Thurnscoe Victoria team, was the outstanding player in the semi final match of the Montagu Cup competition on the Mexborough Athletic ground on Saturday when Thurnscoe were defeated by Goldthorpe United.
He is a clever shrewd player who uses his head well. He has about six year’s experience in Midland League football with Wombwell and Frickley.
He is about 5ft 10 in high and weights about 11 st 7 lb.
He is only 25 years old and has a good deal of football before him.
