The 1969 final between Houghton Main and East Dene was refereed by D. Jones and played on Easter Sunday 6th April with an 11am kick-off.

EDWARDS gave East Dene the lead and, although PILKINGTON equalised for Houghton Main, EDWARDS scored again to give the Rotherham team a 2-1 half-time lead.
The South Yorkshire Times, no longer titled the Mexborough & Swinton Times, commented that all three goals had been influenced by the swirling wind at Hampden Road.

Early in the second half, after Fellows had hit the bar, PILKINGTON netted his second to bring Houghton level again. After 65 minutes the turn around was complete when GUEST fired home Main’s third with a scorching left foot drive. East Dene pushed everyone forward in an attempt to take the final into extra time but, near the final whistle, BLAYDEN headed a fourth to give Houghton Main a 4-2 win.
