Swinton DSS goalkeeper George Ernest Palmer saved a penalty late on in this match (photo from 1914).
He went on to become the President of the Coal Miners' Union. 
He also JP and a councillor.

George clearly stayed involved in Swinton football.  The newspaper clipping from the late 1960s (?) shows him next to Paul Senior with the Rotherham Charity Cup.
His granddaughter, Anne Bowes has kindly provided the photographs.  Another grand father of Anne's was Walter Brayshaw who played for Sheff Utd, Blackburn, Exeter & Southend.
