John Swales made newspaper headlines in 1978 when he played two matches in one afternoon!
At 3pm he kicked off for BSC Parkgate in the County Senior League and helped his team to a 3-0 half-time lead. He then dashed to Denaby to play for United in teh semi-final of the Montagu Cup in a 4pm kick-off against Northgate WMC. He came on in the second half and created the only goal in a 1-1 draw. However, yet another shoulder dislocation later that season resulted in his retirement from football on medical advice when he was just 28 years old.
