Played in the Mexborough Association Under 18 League. Winners of the Mexborough Youth Cup. The team was managed by Clarrie Mason.
The team attracted the attention of Cliff Duffy, Doncaster Rovers Chief Scout. He was impressed with the performance of the team and in November 1953 the Doncaster Rovers Manager, Peter Doherty (ex Northern Ireland International inside forward), and invited the team to play Doncaster Rovers Northern Intermediate Under 18 team. The game was played under floodlights on their Belle Vue ground, which at that time was one of the few Football League Clubs to have a full size playing pitch and one of the few to have floodlights. Doncaster Rovers former first team centre-half, Sid Bycroft, was manager of their Under 18 team. The referee was Ernest Crawford who was a Football League Division One official (at that time the top league).
Doncaster Rovers were 3-0 up after 10/15 minutes as MTOB adjusted to the playing conditions. In the second half MTOB scored 6 goals and won 6-4. Peter Doherty said MTOB were the best Under 18 team he had ever seen and contacted Lancashire FA to find the best Under 18 team in the Manchester area to play MTOB Under 18 team on Doncaster Rovers ground under floodlights. MTOB won the first game at Doncaster and lost the return game on a poor quality pitch in Manchester.
Later in season 1953-1954 several MTOB players played for Doncaster Rovers Under 18 team in the Northern Intermediate League, namely Kenny King (centre forward), Geoff Church (inside left), John Buckley (defender), Ken Lee (outside right) and Brian Dutton (outside left).
It is interesting to note that most of the players in MSTS 1951-1952 school team progressed in MTOB 1952-1953 and 1953-1954 teams, and eight of the players progressed further in MTOB successful cup winning teams: 1954-1955 (two cups), 1955-1956 (Montagu Cup Runners-Up and four cups) and 1956-1957 (Montagu Cup Winners and one other cup). In particular the 1951-1952 forward line remained unchanged throughout 1952-1953 and 1953-1954, they all scored a lot of goals.

MEXBOROUGH SCHOFIELD TECHNICAL SCHOOL UNDER 18 TEAM 1951-1952 AND
MEXBOROUGH TECH OLD BOYS UNDER 18 TEAM 1952-1953 AND 1953-1954
In season 1951-1952, Mexborough Schofield Technical School Under 18 football team won the South Yorkshire Technical Schools League Cup for the first time ever. The physical education teacher was Clarrie Mason. Most of the team left school aged 16 at the end of the final year of studies in the summer of 1952.
Most of the 1951-1952 team was selected to play for Mexborough Tech Old Boys in seasons 1952- 1953 and 1953-1954 in the Mexborough Association League Under 18 League. They were Winners of the Mexborough Youth Cup in 1953-1954. The team was managed by Clarrie Mason.
At the start of season 1953-1954, the MTOB Under 18 team attracted the attention of Cliff Duffy, Doncaster Rovers Chief Scout. He was impressed with the performance of the team and in November 1953 the Doncaster Rovers Manager, Peter Doherty (ex Northern Ireland International inside forward), invited the MTOB Under 18 team to play Doncaster Rovers Northern Intermediate Under 18 team. In 1952-1953, Ken Lee and Brian Dutton played for the MSTS school team in the morning and the MTOB team in the afternoon! Other players from MSTS 1951-1952 who progressed with MTOB through 1952-1953 and 1953-1954 were Bob Wakefield (goalkeeper), Paul Fisher (left back) and Mick Fallon (left half). 1951-1952 was a very good year for the MSTS school team and their progress achievements with MTOB Under 18 teams in 1952-1953 and 1953-1954 were outstanding. They were golden years and most of the players progressed further to form the nucleus of the MTOB very successful cups winning teams in 1954-1955, 1955-1956 (Montagu Cup Runners-Up) and 1956-1957 (Montagu Cup Winners).
