A goal five minutes from the end dashed the Steelmen’s hopes of winning the MontagueCup for the first time on Easter Monday.
Brodsworth’s Rankine, brother of former Doncaster Rovers defender Nark, fought off Parkgate’s Seaman to shoot the winner past Travers after a long clearance in the final at Hampden Road, Mexborough.
Parkgate, lying in tenth position in the Northern Counties East League Division One took the lead in the 22nd minute.
Neil Stringer scored from Dainty’s cross in a half where Brodsworth created few chances.
Brodsworth goal keeper Dawson saved his team from embarrassment from Thomas’ long back pass and Purvis was only inches wide for the Steelmen.
Brodsworth propping up the Division One table, soaked up second half pressure from the Steelmen and Darren Wedlock beat Travers to the ball to net the equaliser.
Losers Parkgate received the Bernard Hodgkinson Memorial trophy from his widow Mary Francis.
This year’s Montagu Cup Competion raised more than £1000 for the Mexborough Montagu Hospital Comforts Fund.
